- 1971-‘75: Seeking like minds and more, I attended the national college of art, Dublin
- 1972: Awarded the competitive scholarship of the college ( 3 year, fees and some living expenses )
- 1974: Awarded diploma of fine art of the college (A.N.C.A.D.)
- 1975: Awarded honours in dept.of education‘s “teaching art” examinations after one year full-time studies at the national college of art & design.

I have lived in Fairview (my kids are 4th generation Fairview) since 1974 when I became caretaker (thanks for the house) of the old Jewish cemetery along with my wife. We lived in east Co. Clare for two years followed by a return to Fairview. In 1987 we moved to our own home on Waverley Avenue, Fairview.
I have always been involved with the visual arts. My mother claims I made deliberate shapes with crumbs in the pram. I ran art / craft classes for local kids in our area at 14 years of age. That was the start of my teaching (facilitating) career. I recently finished almost 30 years as art teacher in Artane, Dublin.
Along the way I taught:
- Art and art metalwork at St Patricks Institution,
- Art & crafts at Drogheda Grammar School, Co. Louth,
- Art and technical graphics at Plunket VEC, Whitehall, Dublin
- Crafts with Anchor study group in Artane, Dublin
- Summer art courses in Scarriff, Co. Clare,
- Evening life drawing classes with pre-dip students at the national college of art & design.

.
I trained as a sculptor, favouring clay modelling and casting, with a good deal of time spent working with ceramics, metalwork, silver jewellery and enamel work, stained glass and “plastics” during college time and beyond. Line drawing has always been my most expressive medium. It naturally led to time spent working in woodblock and linoprint. I shared a printing studio in Mount Temple schools for 2 years. I exhibited in group shows at the Project gallery, the Grapevine arts centre & with “independent artists” at the Hugh Lane gallery, from 1973 to ‘77.
Teaching at secondary level in Ireland gives the opportunity to do something with the “rest of your life” for 3 months each year. I worked through pen and ink, with wash, in the town and landscapes of east Co. Clare in ‘79 & ‘80 exhibiting locally twice (Mountshannon and Killaloe). In the same medium, I worked in Lichtenstein & Switzerland ‘81 to ‘84, with a one-man show in Werdenberg in ‘82 , along with a substantial commission from the “Furstentum pro Werdenberg” in the same year, and participation in a group show in St. Gallen in ‘83.
In recent years I have had 5 exhibitions at the 101 Talbot, Talbot St., Dublin. My first 2 shows were paintings on silk, the others were oils on canvas. After a 3month period working in the Burren, Co. Clare in 2000, I began to work with oils on canvas.
Having finished teaching in 2006, an opportunity arose to move into a studio off Richmond road in Fairview. Formerly known as “Pig Dog Studios” it now operates under the title “Richmond Studios”. There are 20 studios with approx. 28 artists sharing the workspaces.

Hey, Glen, never realised you went to St. Vincent’s Glasnevin. Must reminisce about that the next time we have a pint!

Hi Glen, met you in a little pub in Whitegate when I was with my then boyfriend, now husband..we had an evening of small world stories. It turned out that I was renting around the corner from you in Fairview. Dermot the pub owner told us a good one about meeting a class mate he hadn’t seen in 40 odd years in a bus in Marrakesh. Great to find this website and find out that you have been kept going since with art. All the best. Catherine.
