The Manager of the City Council has decided to not go ahead with their plan to restrict parking from January 2009 for the following reasons:

1. No obvious solution to the problem of catering for persons attending church / funeral services
2. Problems of catering for local pubs, restaurants and other businesses
3. The problem of displacement of parking outside the cordon area

The managers report also states that “an alternative solution to match day parking is available in the form of 2 hour pay & display schemes”.

However the City Council’s Transport SPC met on September 11 and rejected the manager’s report. They decided instead to enter into further discussions with the GAA, public transport providers and the Department of Transport.
